Iowa transfer quarterback Deacon Hill commits to Utah Tech

Iowa transfer quarterback Deacon Hill committed to Utah Tech on Saturday night. He announced the news via his Instagram page.
Hill re-entered the portal following just one lone season with the Hawkeyes, spending the first two years of his college career at Wisconsin.
Last season for the Hawkeyes Hill appeared in 13 games with nine starts, completing 48.6% of his passes for 1,152 yards, five touchdowns, and eight interceptions for an Iowa offense that had its fair share of offensive struggles. Also rushing for two scores last season.
With the Badgers, Hill redshirted in his freshman season and appeared in just one game for the 2022 season versus New Mexico State where he had zero pass attempts and was sacked once.
Hill played high school football at Santa Barbara High School in California where he was a three-star recruit. Ranked the No. 433 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 36 quarterback from the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Last season was Hill’s first gaining true experience at the college level, as the 6-foot-3, 258-pound quarterback will now look for a third program to call home ahead of the 2024 football season.

“I think he has improved each and every week,” said Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz regarding Hill last November. “It has been a long haul. And I think, really, the credit goes to him. It’s everybody working with him, though. But I think we know him better.
“He certainly has improved dramatically. I think it’s just a credit to him sticking with it, just kept on going. Certainly, his ball security has gotten better too. That’s the other part about it which is important. His awareness. I thought, the last two weeks, he has made some really nice throws, some clutch plays.”
Hill played in relief of an injured Cade McNamara last season, the Michigan transfer who returns this year after missing a majority of the 2023 due to a torn ACL injury.
