Anonymous ACC coach declares Louisville a 'title dark horse'
In his second season as head coach in 2024, Jeff Brohm and Louisville came just shy of a College Football Playoff berth with a 9-4 record. An anonymous ACC coach predicts that Louisville will remain in the hunt for a Playoff selection, and may even be a title dark horse, this season in Athlon Sports’ 2025 College Football Preview.
“This is a team that should be considered a title dark horse because of how effective the offense can be in big games,” one coach said. “[Miller] Moss is a veteran who’s played well in a variety of systems. They’re going to score a lot of points.”
Moss, who will be replacing Tyler Shough as the Cardinals’ signal caller in 2025, played four seasons at USC prior to transferring this offseason. In 21 career games, Moss has thrown for 3,469 yards, 27 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
As USC’s quarterback in 2023, Moss threw for 372 yards and six touchdowns in a 42-28 win over the ‘Cards in the Holiday Bowl. “Miller Moss is going to do really well with [Jeff] Brohm,” said another coach. “That was a huge, huge get for them in the portal.”
Moss isn’t the lone offensive piece that Brohm and his staff are bringing in, as they also corralled Oklahoma three-star tight end Davon Mitchell, three-star SEMO IOL Carter Guillaume and three-star NC State WR Dacari Collins.

Although it lost star wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks to the NFL Draft, Louisville also returns star running back Isaac Brown, his partner in the backfield running back Duke Watson and its number-two receiver last season Chris Bell.
The Louisville offense, which was statistically the 13th best in college football last season, has completely re-loaded. “Even losing the quarterback-wide receiver combo, this is going to be a fantastic offense,” another coach said.
On the defensive side of the ball, Louisville returns its two leading tacklers last season in linebacker TJ Quinn and linebacker Stanquan Clark. The Cardinals also hauled in four-star Coastal Carolina EDGE Clev Lubin, three-star FIU S JoJo Evans and three-star Tennessee LB Kalib Perry.
In what looks to be another top heavy season of ACC football, Louisville is poised to make a run at its first ever appearance in the College Football Playoff. The ‘Cards open the 2025 season on August 30 against Eastern Kentucky.
