JD PicKell: Brian Kelly will fix program the right way in short-term at LSU

LSU’s decision to hire Brian Kelly away from Notre Dame was a surprising one during a crazy coaching carousel this offseason. But if there’s one thing the Tigers got in Kelly, it’s someone who can get the program back on track, according to On3’s J.D. PicKell.
Kelly comes in after becoming the winningest coach in Notre Dame history and holds a career 0.728 winning percentage at D-II Grand Valley State, Cincinnati and Notre Dame. PicKell argued at least in the short term, Kelly is going to bring something to LSU that hasn’t been there lately: stability.
Remember, it wasn’t all good for Ed Orgeron off the field before LSU decided not to bring him back, and PicKell said Kelly will run a tighter ship in Baton Rouge.

“In the shortest term, I think what you can expect from an LSU coach Brian Kelly is they’re going to start doing things the right way,” PicKell said on The Hard Count. “It might not be, ‘OK, great, we do things the right way and then in 2022, we’re national champs.’ It might take a little bit longer than that. But Brian Kelly is a no-nonsense kind of guy. He has won 73% of his games as a head coach, so at the very least, he knows how to win. He knows how to get it done on the field.
“And this LSU operation for the last 365 days and some change has been a really loose operation, right? Everything with Ed Orgeron and everything that he had off the field, this that and the other. We’re not here to talk about that, but I think the point in saying that is that LSU hasn’t really had a rudder for this ship. There has been a lot of looseness within that operation. It’s hard to blame the kids. If you’re a college kid and you find out your head coach isn’t going to be there after the season, it’s hard to really blame these guys for feeling a little bit loosey goosey about the whole deal. So all that’s to say Brian Kelly is coming in, he’s bringing some structure.”
