LSU running back Josh Williams is utilizing some fighting words when it comes to Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC.

Evidently, the Houston, Texas native has respect for the Big 12, but he wants the Longhorns and Sooners to know the SEC is a different beast, as he explained at SEC Media Days on Monday.

“I don’t think they know what they’re getting into,” responded Williams, pressed about Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC. “The SEC is a beast, everybody knows. But I’m excited for them to actually get into the conference.

“You know being from Texas, and seeing all these guys from Texas either have to go to [Texas] A&M or leave the state to play in the SEC, it’s a big deal to really have another opportunity for guys to be playing in Texas, stay in the state and play for their state.”

It just means more in the SEC, and Williams wants to make sure Texas and Oklahoma recognizes that. Still, he’s happy to see the conference expanding into his home state, and the opportunities it’ll provide.

“I love the fact that the SEC is expanding more to Texas,” added Williams. “I feel like a lot of kids from Texas leave Texas because they want to play in the SEC, but now that they’re bringing it more to Texas, I think it’s a great thing for football.”

Alas, Williams has seen a ton of success at LSU under both Ed Orgeron and Brian Kelly, and he’s hoping that’ll continue for the program far into the SEC’s new look.

“Coming into LSU, Coach O ultimately gave me the opportunity to earn a scholarship here,” stated Williams, elaborating on the differences in his coaches over his time at LSU. “Coach O is a lot more outspoken, a lot more loud, but he ultimately did give me the opportunity to come here as a walk-on and earn that scholarship, which he did give me. So I love Coach O forever for that.

“Coach Kelly, there’s a lot of similarities. They’re both great coaches, but Coach Kelly is a lot more — I feel like Coach Kelly gave me the opportunity to become more of a leader. He gave me the opportunity to actually start in a game. Not only that, but I feel like Coach Kelly has helped me become more into my own as a man, as a confident person. They’re both great day-to-day. I wouldn’t ask for any other coaches.”

Josh Williams has a lot of pride in his school, his conference and his play, and he’ll utilize all of that pride for LSU in 2023.
