It’s a new era of LSU Tigers football, with Lane Kiffin taking over as the team’s next head coach. That came after a long courtship where he was arguably the most in-demand coach this cycle. It also didn’t come without controversy regarding how he exited Ole Miss.

Still, for Kiffin, he’s at a program where he has the opportunity to win a national championship. Already, he’s embraced this job, with his first Twitter/X post as the LSU coach featuring Mike the Tiger.

There were plenty of reactions, naturally. Among those was former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, who replied to Lane Kiffin. In his reply, Griffin shared some of his own thoughts. In particular, that Kiffin doesn’t care about outside opinions and is going to have the chance now to celebrate what is a dream job.

“I will say this,” Robert Griffin III wrote. “Lane Kiffin doesn’t care if you like his decision. 100ms and a dream come true for him. He gonna celebrate this life changing moment.”

Griffin mentioned the salary that Kiffin is set to get at LSU. It’s in the range of $13 million annually, making him among the highest paid coaches in the country. That’s certainly a reason to be excited, let alone the opportunity to win there.

There has been a lot of criticism of Lane Kiffin for taking a rival job at Ole Miss in the same year he had the Rebels on the edge of the College Football Playoff. Furthermore, there had been plenty of criticism for the actual exit itself, where he still wanted to coach the CFP and seemed to try and set an ultimatum on the coaching staff exiting with him immediately as leverage. Those issues were something that Kiffin himself would blame on the calendar.

“Eventually, hopefully it gets like the NFL where can’t do that in the season and don’t have to make those decisions,” Kiffin said. “But in that, it was very important and very critical. Verge (Ausberry) and his team had a really, really good (NIL) plan, and even talked to some donors that are part of that plan here, to see exactly; How does that work? And there’s a great plan here.”

Whatever is to blame for the saga can be debated. However, it did end up being a dramatic and emotional coaching change. Ole Miss will go on without Lane Kiffin, looking to find success in the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history. Meanwhile, he’s tasked at LSU with getting the Tigers back to that national championship level of success in the coming years.
