RB CharMar Brown commits to Miami from NCAA Transfer Portal

RB CharMar Brown was to announce a decision of which school he would chose for next season to start this week. That choice is now out with him having committed to Miami from the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Brown chose the Hurricanes today over Nebraska as well as programs like California, LSU, Indiana, Arkansas, and West Virginia. That’s after visits by him over the last week or so to Coral Gables, Lincoln, and Berkeley. Now, after making his top-two along with the ‘Huskers, The ‘U was his choice out of the transfer portal.
Brown was an entry during the spring cycle a few months following his redshirt freshman season at North Dakota State. He, in that collegiate debut, posted 244 carries for 1,181 yards, good for 73.8 yards per game and 4.8 per carry, for 15 touchdowns on the ground. That made him the top freshman in the Football Championship Division as the winner of the Jerry Rice Award and a FCS Freshman All-American while being Freshman of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Second Team All-MVFC in the Missouri Valley Conference.
With that, Brown was one of the top available names in the portal post-spring per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He rated at No. 677 overall and as the No. 47 RB, which made him the No. 12 running back still uncommitted before this.
Now, Brown is the fifth addition of the spring portal cycle, with all five committing in the last week, for Miami. He’ll be coming to Coral Gables alongside WRs Tony Johnson (Cincinnati) and Keelan Marion (BYU), LB Kamal Bonner (NC State), and PK Bert Auburn (Texas). That brings the Hurricanes to 17 transfers this offseason in a top-five class currently in the portal.

More on Brown committing to Miami
The Miami Hurricanes’ running backs room just went from a bit thin depth-wise to pretty well-stocked. The team, which had four scholarship backs in spring football, now has added a high-quality fifth back to the room as North Dakota State RB CharMar Brown, who was on of the FCS’s most dangerous players as a freshman last season, is transferring to Miami.

The 5-11, 220-pound bruiser ran for 1,181 yards and 15 touchdowns this past season while averaging 4.8 yards per carry. That performance earned the Nebraska native the Jerry Rice Award, which is given annually to the top freshman in FCS football. Per Pro Football Focus, he graded out at an elite 90.8 percent in his 402 reps (sixth-best among all FCS backs). That included 3.12 yards after contact, 51 forced missed tackles (24th most in FCS) and 28 carries of 10+ yards.
Of course, Miami is a much different level. Brown will now get his chance, though, to show what he can do with the Canes.
“What makes Miami a great fit for me is I come from an offense that is physical, tough and I feel like having that aspect to it of me doing the same thing in the ACC will bring wonders to the offense – something that’s missing, something that can wear out the defense,” Brown said to CaneSport coming off his commitment.
“I feel I can be that guy to punish the defense, also make stuff happen as well, get first downs,” saod Brown. “That’s what really matters – keep the chains moving and make those big runs as well.”
