Bryce Underwood spent his day as Batman, but he’s ready to hang up the mask for now. The Michigan quarterback was gifted a Batman mask from associate head coach Biff Poggi, who started the trend by comparing Underwood to the superhero during a radio appearance.

Poggi’s comments came after Underwood scored three total touchdown, throwing for 235 yards and rushing for another 114 against Central Michigan in Week 3. The QB revealed in a press conference Monday exactly what he did with the Batman mask gift from his coach.

“I put it on the day he gave it to me, and that was the only time I put it on,” he said. “…I ain’t gonna lie, that mask was very authentic. It was very awkward. I was like, ‘This is too real for me to ever put on again.’ So it was like, ‘I’ll put it back up in the locker.'”

Since receiving the Batman mask from Poggi, Bryce Underwood led the Wolverines to victories against Nebraska and Wisconsin. He threw for a season-high 270 yards and a touchdown with no interception in the win against the Badgers.

Michigan lost this past week against USC as Underwood finished 15-of-24 passing for 207 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. It looks like the freshman is finally settling in after joining the Wolverines as the No. 1 recruit in the nation this offseason.

Hopefully Underwood can use the loss against the Trojans as a learning lesson to come back more prepared and get Michigan back in the win column. The Wolverines have a matchup against Washington at home on Saturday.

Overall this season, Underwood has thrown for 1,210 yards and five touchdowns with two interceptions. He also has 177 yards rushing and three more touchdowns on the ground. He offered his thoughts on what his college experience has been like so far.

“…I’m having way more fun than I expected to have, honestly,” Underwood said. “Watching college football as a kid, it was like, ‘Who knows how difficult this could possibly be when I get this much older?’ Just excited to go out every single week and showcase my talents and everything I’ve worked for.”

The young QB will look to keep improving as he leads his team into a tough matchup against a Huskies team whose only loss so far is against No. 1 Ohio State. Kickoff between Michigan and Washington is set for 12 p.m. ET on Saturday in Ann Arbor.
