Daxton Hill posts impressive 40-yard dash time
Hill’s time may not have been the quickest of the players to run on Sunday, but his final time of 4.41 certainly put him in the upper level of speed on display. Hill’s talents helped him be a big part of Michigan’s Big Ten Championship-winning defense, recording 69 total tackles on the season with two interceptions.
Mel Kiper Jr.’s mock draft has Hill listed as his second-best safety available in the 2022 NFL Draft, behind only Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton and ahead of Jaquan Brisker from Penn State. Most mock drafts predict Hill being a first-round draft pick this year, with similar physical measurements to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ safety Minkah Fitzpatrick according to the NFL Network coverage on Sunday.
As of the initial reported times, Hill’s 4.41 seconds was the fifth-highest unofficial time among safeties participating. Daxton’s brother, NFL running back Justice Hill had a similar time during his combine workout with a 4.4 40-yard dash as both brothers have NFL-level speed.

The fastest time among safeties at the combine was posted by Baylor’s JT Woods, as Baylor’s domination of the 40-yard dash leaderboard continued. In a big win for Hill’s draft prospect, his time noticeably edged out his competition at the top of draft boards. Hamilton posted a surprisingly slow 4.59 time, while Brisker recorded a time of 4.53 seconds. Both were over a full tenth of a second behind Hill’s 4.41.
To put Hill’s time in greater context, his time would have ranked him in the center of the pack as 13th among cornerbacks at the combine, and it is the 18th-fastest time among all defensive backs.
