Mickey Joseph provides Casey Thompson injury update, addresses Thompson's future at Nebraska

First-year Nebraska quarterback Casey Thompson will have options after yet another disappointing Cornhusker season comes to end on Friday against Iowa. A redshirt junior with two years of eligibility remaining, Thompson could stay put, transfer or even try out the NFL Draft.
Whatever decision Thompson makes, interim Nebraska head coach Mickey Joseph knows it’ll be well considered and not a choice he had much influence over. Either way, he’s confident the quarterback would like to run it back in Lincoln.
“No, only thing Casey and I have talked about is he’s gonna graduate, he’s going to get his masters in December and I congratulate him on that,” Joseph said. “But it’s not going to be my decision about these kids future. They’re going to make their decision, with their family. Casey comes from a strong family and a family that understands the business so they’ll make the best decision. But, Casey wants to stay here at the University of Nebraska.”
Thompson, a transfer from Texas, has had an up-and-down first season at Nebraska. He’s clearly the best option at quarterback for the Cornhuskers and has, at times, given the offense some potency with downfield throws to Trey Palmer and the like. Still, Nebraska is 3-8 and likely to lose against Iowa on the road in the finale — things have been far from rosy for a team that fired a head coach after three weeks.

To boot, Thompson missed a pair of games and some change with an injury to his throwing arm and made his return in a 15-14 loss to Wisconsin on Saturday.
Joseph said that Thompson is looking healthier and should be in good shape by game day. And then Thompson will get to weigh out his options for next year.
“Casey threw the ball better today. He was a little rusty last week. Today — I thought he threw the ball really well today,” Joseph said on Tuesday.
