Report: Dana Holgorsen, Nebraska agree to two-year deal as full-time offensive coordinator

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Nebraska has agreed to a two-year deal with Dana Holgorsen to become the program’s full-time offensive coordinator. Head coach Matt Rhule brought Holgorsen to Lincoln late in the season, hoping to revitalize the unit. Now, the relationship will move forward in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
“Sources: Nebraska has agreed to a two-year deal to make Dana Holgorsen the full-time offensive coordinator,” Thamel said via X. “He came in during early November as an analyst and was named the coordinator and play-caller soon after. He’s slated to make $1.2 million per year in the new deal.
Nebraska originally brought Holgorsen on as an offensive analyst but he was quickly promoted. He took over as the offensive coordinator and play-caller ahead of Nov. 16’s game against USC. Some improvements were shown, specifically against Wisconsin when the Huskers put up a season-high 44 points.
Hiring Holgorsen was a move Rhule may have needed to make in order to keep star quarterback Dylan Raiola. Robin Washut of On3’s Husker Online believes Raiola may have left the Huskers had there not been the addition.

“My two cents on it is, if Matt Rhule didn’t make a move, the odds of Dylan Raiola not being here next season go up dramatically,” Washut said on Sirius XM on Nov. 13. “And so I think that they had to do something, and bringing in a coach of Dana Holgorsen’s pedigree and his offensive background and the number of quarterbacks that he’s developed, taken to the next level, that’s all of a sudden, a much more appealing sales pitch for Dylan to stick it out here.
“And I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that he and his camp have received, you know, tampering phone calls of people checking in, you know, seeing if he wants to explore his options.”
In the three games Holgorsen called, Raiola threw for an average of 224.7 yards. Two touchdowns and two interceptions are mixed in there with a completion percentage of 71.3. A decent output Nebraska fans will be hoping can take the next step beginning in 2025.
