Bill Belichick’s relationship with his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, has made headlines over the past year. Most recently, however, Hudson has been the subject of criticism after a recent interview the North Carolina head coach had on national television.

With concern growing behind the scenes, Paul Finebaum weighed in on the matter between callers on his daily Paul Finebaum Show on the SEC Network. In classic Finebaum style, he was unfiltered in his response.

“The bottom line, it’s pretty simple to understand,” Finebaum said. “Belichick’s trying to help her, trying to get her jobs, and she doesn’t seem to be qualified to do anything but get in the way.”

Finebaum’s comments stem from Belichick releasing a statement in the wake of his CBS Sunday Morning interview. The UNC coach defended Hudson after the taped interview showed Hudson interrupting him and the interviewer, Tony Dokoupil, saying she and Belichick would not talk anything other than Belichick’s new book. She also reportedly stormed out and delayed the interview for 30 minutes.

Part of Belichick’s statement can be read below. He claimed it was a “false narrative” and CBS presented edited clips to suggest said narrative. Read the full version here.

“I agreed to speak with CBS Sunday Morning to promote my new book, ‘The Art of Winning – Lessons from My Life in Football,'” Belichick said in the statement. “Prior to this interview, I clearly communicated with my publicist at Simon & Schuster that any promotional interviews I participated in would agree to focus solely on the contents of this book.”

The statement continued, noting that there was an “expectation” that the interview would solely discuss the book another nothing else surrounding it. That, however, “was not honored during the interview.”

CBS News has since responded to Belichick’s statement, claiming that the interview was for a “wide-ranging interview.” The statement read: “There were no preconditions or limitations to this conversation. This was confirmed repeatedly with his publisher before the interview took place and after it was completed.”

Moreover, Hudson reportedly had an “instrumental role” in stopping the production of North Carolina appearing on this summer’s edition of Hard Knocks on HBO. NFL Films was scheduled to begin filming March 1, but that “suddenly fell apart,” citing creative control as the main issue.

Hudson, who identifies herself as the chief operating officer of Belichick Productions, continues to appear at the side of Belichick. At the same time, questions over her influence inside the UNC football program continue to swirl.
