In the final (scheduled) meeting between the two historic rivals, No. 13 Notre Dame downed No. 20 USC 34-24 Saturday night in South Bend to extend its winning streak to five games after opening the season with back-to-back losses to No. 10 Miami and No. 16 Texas A&M.

Ahead of that matchup, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (who is a USC alum) and long snapper Scott Daly (who is a Notre Dame alum) made a bet. The loser would don apparel of the winning program. Daly’s Fighting Irish came out on top, leading Williams to sport a Notre Dame hoodie on Tuesday.

Williams transferred to USC in 2022 following his freshman season at Oklahoma. At USC, Williams passed for 8,170 yards, 72 touchdowns and just 10 interceptions over the span of two seasons (2022-23). He led the Trojans to a 19-8 record and was named the Heisman Trophy winner in 2022, becoming the eighth USC player to win the Award.

Daly meanwhile played four seasons at Notre Dame (2012-16) and went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft. He began his professional career in the AAF and the XFL before latching on with the Detroit Lions in 2021. He remained in Detroit until 2024, when he signed with the Bears.

Jeremiyah Love thrashed USC for 265 all-purpose yards in win

Just as Williams did in 2022, Notre Dame star running back Jeremiyah Love certainly looked worthy of a Heisman Trophy win in the 10-point victory over USC. Love rushed for 228 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries, along with hauling in five receptions for 37 yards.

Following that legendary performance against their historic rival, Love now ranks No. 10 on On3’s latest Heisman Trophy Poll. Seven different Fighting Irish players have won the award over the course of its 90-year history.

Team morale is currently extremely high for the Chicago Bears, as they are currently enjoying their first four-game winning streak since 2018. That season, Chicago finished with a 12-4 record and lost in the Wild Card Round to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Through six games, Williams has led the Bears to a 4-2 record and has looked much more comfortable in his sophomore year of NFL football. He’s passed for 1,351 yards, nine touchdowns and just three interceptions. The former Trojan has also totaled two more scores on the ground.
