Report: Ohio State baseball to hire former Texas assistant Sean Allen to staff
Ohio State baseball is gearing up to make a big-time addition to its staff. First-year head coach Bill Mosiello is bringing in a high-profile assistant coach.
The Buckeyes are set to hire former Texas assistant Sean Allen to its staff, according to D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers. Allen was on David Pierce’s staff for 10 years in Austin, but he and the Longhorns parted ways after the 2022 season. In 2021, he was D1Baseball’s Assistant of the Year. He’ll take the spot of Gregg Wallis after he took the head coaching job at Grand Canyon, Rogers reported Thursday.
This past year under Allen’s watch, Texas had the No. 26 ERA in the nation at 4.22 while also leading the Big 12 in that area. He’ll now head to an Ohio State team that had a team ERA of 6.51 ERA this past season.
The Buckeyes had a 21-30 overall record and an 8-14 record in Big Ten play before moving on from coach Greg Beals after the season. Texas, meanwhile, went 47-22 overall and 14-10 in SEC action. The Longhorns made it to the College World Series, where they fell to Notre Dame and Texas A&M in Omaha.

Greg Beals out, Bill Mosiello in at Ohio State
Ohio State made a major change to the school’s baseball coaching staff this offseason after parting ways with head coach Greg Beals. Prior to coming to Ohio State, Beals coached from 2003-2010 at Ball State. There, he coached to an overall record of 242-202 and led the Cardinals to one regional appearance.
Since taking over the Buckeyes program, he made three regional appearances, coming in 2016, 2018, and 2019. In his 12 years at Ohio State, Beals coached to a 345-288-1 record and a 141-139 mark against Big Ten opponents.
The Buckeyes then moved to hire TCU associate head coach Bill Mosiello. Mosiello has a lengthy resume with the latest bullet point being a 10-year stint with the TCU Horned Frogs. After joining the TCU staff in 2013, he assumed the role of associate head coach, as well as hitting/offensive coach and third base coach.
