Oklahoma may have lost two talented quarterbacks in Spencer Rattler and Caleb Williams, but the Sooners replaced them with former UCF star Dillon Gabriel, and former Pittsburgh quarterback Davis Beville.

While Gabriel was tapped to lead the team, Beville has been the perfect backup for the former Knights star. Speaking with the media, the Sooners starting quarterback explained what he appreciates about the former Pittsburgh quarterback.

“I love how well he’s been able to take in information and challenge himself in the mental game and the mental side of it, knowing that it is a different perspective,” stated Gabriel. “You know, having to wait and just be prepared. Be ready.

“He prepares like he’s the guy too, so I can respect that, and it continues to push me to contribute to be at the top of my game.”

Moreover, Beville served as Kenny Pickett‘s backup last season at Pitt and played in the Peach Bowl after Pickett opted out. In that game, he threw for 149 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers fell to Michigan State 31-21 on Dec. 31. He appeared in nine games for Pittsburgh, completing 22 of 32 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown in that time.

A former three-star recruit in 2019, Beville arrived at Pittsburgh as the No. 6 quarterback prospect from the state of South Carolina that year, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Beville was likely the heir apparent to Pickett this coming year, but then Pitt landed USC transfer Kedon Slovis in the transfer portal. Slovis threw for 2,153 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Trojans in 2021, and the coaching staff decided to hand him the keys to the castle.

Alas, Davis Beville is in Norman now, and it looks like he’s fitting in great. If he gets a chance to show his stuff on the field, its evident he’ll be game.
