Early odds have been released for a handful of college football games and the early odds for the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas will certainly raise an eyebrow or two.

According to FanDuel, Texas opens as a five-point favorite for the annual Red River Rivalry matchup.

That’s quite the low point spread for a game that was decided by a whopping 49 points just one year ago. Sure both teams will be different in 2023, but it’s hard to forget that 49-0 waxing Texas put on Oklahoma a year ago.

Now, there were obviously quite a few mitigating factors in that huge loss this year.

First, Oklahoma starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel did not play. The Sooners actually went through five different players who threw a pass in the game against the Longhorns, though nobody did it effectively.

The team’s leading passer in the brutal loss was Davis Beville, who finished 6-of-12 for 38 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

In any case, Vegas certainly expects it to be a much closer Red River Rivalry matchup this time around, with an extra year for Brent Venables and company to settle in at Oklahoma.
