With a little less than four minutes remaining in the second quarter against Temple, Oklahoma wide receiver Keontez Lewis suffered a head-to-head hit while trying to make a catch against Temple. After trainers took a lengthy look at him on the turf, he walked off a bit woozy under his own power, leaving the game.

Afterwards, Lewis was spotted by George Stoia III of Sooner Scoop walking around, but the medical staff took his helmet. Per Stoia III, it appears the Oklahoma wide receiver is done for the afternoon.

Lewis spent the first two seasons of his college football career with Wisconsin, before playing with the Southern Illinois Salukis in 2024. This is his first season with Oklahoma, and he’s already caught two touchdowns for the Sooners in 2025.

Hopefully he can get back on the field and return to making players for the program sooner rather than later. Next week, Oklahoma will face Auburn in a highly anticipated showdown, and a win would continue their hot streak in 2025.

More on the 2025 Oklahoma Sooners

After a down 2024 season in which Oklahoma went just 6-7 and lost in the Armed Forces Bowl, the Sooners emerged onto the college football landscape last Saturday with a convincing 24-13 win over Michigan in Norman.

Following the win, the Sooners rose just five spots from No. 18 to No. 13 in the AP Top 25 poll. ESPN‘s Greg McElroy however revealed on Wednesday’s ‘Always College Football‘ podcast that he believes the Sooners should be even higher. He has them at No. 5 in his personal rankings.

“(Oklahoma) had a dominant, resume-defining victory in the only ranked vs. ranked matchup of the week,” McElroy said. “I think it’s so laughable because I look at the AP Poll and right now it has Oklahoma at No. 13. I mean that is genuinely laughable. They’re behind Clemson for crying out loud. Clemson through six quarters looked lifeless. Oklahoma goes out and convincingly beats Michigan and by the way it could have been worse if not for a couple of mistakes in the game.

“Turnover or two in the game, giving Michigan a new lease on life a few times in the game. That thing could have been worse. There were plays left on the field. So if I’m grading Oklahoma‘s performance last week, it’s probably like a B+. Really good win and good on defense but there’s more in the tank there. Oklahoma comes all the way up from No. 14 into the top-five. Very few teams with a better win and very few teams that can beat you in as many ways as Oklahoma can beat you.”
