Dan Lanning defends clothing choices in the rain at Iowa: 'Mama didn't raise no b****'

Cold temperatures and pouring rain put a damper on No. 7 Oregon‘s 18-16 win over host Iowa on Nov. 8, but you wouldn’t know it by Ducks coach Dan Lanning‘s choice of gameday attire. Despite a heavy downpour that saturated both the field and the stands inside Kinnick Stadium, Lanning refused to wear any protective rain gear, opting instead for his usual cotton Oregon sweater.
The 39-year-old Lanning explained his fashion choice Friday during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Show co-host Ty Schmidt — using his infamous “Lou Holtz” impression — asked the fourth-year Oregon coach about opting to go without any rain gear like his players.
“I’ve always kind of been that way. You might catch me at practice ripping the top off just so these guys can know ‘Hey, look, it’s not bad, let’s go play ball,’” Lanning said Friday. “That’s always been my mindset. I came into the locker room at the Iowa game and there was this little contraption that’s supposed to be like a heat warmer or something. I said, ‘What’s this, a microphone?’ … and they were like, ‘No, no, coach, you can wear it under your gear.’ And I’m like, ‘Hey man, momma didn’t raise no bitch. I’m not wearing that.’ It’s just as close as I can get to (being in the fight) and not be in the action with these guys.”
Jokes about his gameday gear aside, Lanning expects much better weather this Saturday for Week 13’s Top 15 showdown between No. 15 USC (8-2, 6-1 Big Ten) and the seventh-ranked Ducks (9-1, 6-1 Big Ten). The game kicks at 3:30 p.m. ET from Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Ore.
Joel Klatt picks Oregon to win, cover against USC
No. 15 USC vs. No. 7 Oregon is the biggest game of the weekend, especially given the massive College Football Playoff implications on the line on Saturday afternoon. Now, FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt has predicted the must-win game for both teams up in Eugene between the Trojans and Ducks.

“Oregon, of course, sitting at seven. USC is sitting at 15,” Klatt said on Thursday’s show. “I think this is a de facto Playoff game, candidly, because, if USC wins, they will almost certainly be the tenth team in the country next week when the Playoff rankings come out. That ten spot is a vital spot because that’s really the cutoff to get in to the playoff. … That ten spot is basically going to be the last spot. If they beat Oregon, I think Oregon falls to eleven, and I think USC goes up to ten. Therefore, this is like a Playoff game. This is a playoff game, and I cannot wait to see this play out.”
However, that said, Klatt just thinks this does not set up well for Southern Cal. And given a wealth of advantages, including playing at home and having the country’s best pass defense, Klatt went with Oregon to win and cover the -9.5 point spread (-115), courtesy of BetMGM.
“I expect USC is going to score some points, but just not enough. … I love what USC is doing. I just don’t love them in this game. And, on the road, I’m going to have to lean towards Oregon, and I think a ten-point victory is not out of the question. So, I’ve got Oregon, 31-21, and they cover the -9.5,” Klatt said. “I think Oregon wins this game by ten. And, really, this is a game that they have to have, so they’ll play well.”
