Dana Altman eviscerates own coaching job vs. Purdue

Dana Altman was as disappointed himself as he was in his team’s performance in their loss in a Top-20 matchup on Saturday.
Altman put blame on himself for the 65-58 loss at home yesterday for No. 13 Oregon to No. 17 Purdue. He described the Ducks as “poorly-coached” based on their outing against the Boilermakers.
“I tell you what. We’re a poorly-coached team,” Altman said postgame.
Altman’s point was mostly focused on their offensive output with it being a season-low point total for them by far. That came from percentages of under 40% overall and under 25% from three, losing both in points in the paint and fast break points, and the third-most turnovers of their season so far.
“That was – 16 turnovers, leaving our feet, fundamentally not sound. The shot selection? Awful,” said Altman. “Um, really disappointed in myself not being able to get our guys to execute what we wanted.”
Altman actually thought that Oregon played pretty well defensively in holding the Boilermakers to 65, their second-lowest total this year, as they also shut under 35% from the field and under 20% from three with only two triples in the win. However, they had one aspect that hurt them in the end off of them winning the glass.
“We worked our tails off defensively. I thought we got through screens,” said Altman. “The 14-2 second chance points? Again, they beat us on the boards there.”

Oregon is having one of their best seasons under Altman with him doing things right with this team. Still, he placed part of this weekend’s loss on himself with it being their third overall and with all having come during conference play.
