Connor Shaw update: Former South Carolina QB released from hospital after scary collapse

Former South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw was released from the hospital on Saturday, per a report from The State. Shaw, 34, was hospitalized on Wednesday after collapsing at his son’s youth football game.
New details also emerged on what happened that day. According to Chad Smith, an eyewitness who was at the game, he was on an adjacent field when a woman came running over asking for anyone with medical experience. One of the coaches on Smith’s field was a firefighter and bolted over.
There they found Shaw lying face first in the grass. The person immediately began performing CPR on Shaw while bystanders called 911. He was later transported to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Thankfully, Shaw was in stable condition by Saturday leading to his release. South Carolina coach Shane Beamer shouted him out during a mid-game interview during Saturday’s contest against Missouri.
“Connor Shaw, I know you’re watching back in South Carolina,” Beamer said. “I know you went home today and we’re thinking of you, my man. God bless.”
Shaw was one of the most beloved quarterbacks in school history, helping the Gamecocks achieve some of their loftiest heights under former coach Steve Spurrier.
Shaw starred for the Gamecocks from 2010-2013, turning in his best season as a senior when he threw for 2,447 yards and 24 touchdowns, to one interception. He then won the Capital One Bowl MVP when he threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns while adding a receiving touchdown and a rushing score.
