Shane Beamer is in the process of building quite the beast down in Columbia. There’s plenty of excitement around the program and, in turn, more than enough interest in him and South Carolina’s work out on the recruiting trail.

Now, with their spring period complete, Beamer says his staff will restart those efforts this month and will travel around to their targets while he focuses on things on the homefront. He notes that it’s a hectic time for them as there’s plenty of attention placed on them on what they’re building from prospects.

“Our coaches will hit the road recruiting. Our evaluation period opened up, I guess, today. So, starting next week, we’ll have all of our assistant coaches out on the road. Really the last part of April and all of May, off and on,” Beamer said after the Gamecock’s spring game. “Head coaches aren’t allowed to go out so I’ll be doing everything in-house. But the assistant coaches will be on the road.”

“It’s a great time. It was great to be on the road back in January because of the excitement about this program,” said Beamer. “There were a lot of guys that were here tonight. And a lot of guys that are excited about Gamecock football. So I know our assistant coaches are excited to get out on the road and continue promoting what we’re doing.”

Recruiting has already picked up for the Gamecocks since Beamer’s arrival two seasons ago. All you have to do is look at the numbers. Coming out of the Will Muschamp era, their finishes were by no means impressive in On3’s Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. With Beamer established, though, they boasted the No. 16 class in 2023 and currently rank as the No. 6 class in 2024 only behind some of the top programs in the country.

Beamer has quickly changed the vibe around South Carolina with what they have accomplished the last two seasons. His third year will look to do the same, if not better, and continue to find ways to attract top talent to Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturdays.
