Stanford lands commitment from legacy LB Tre Williams

Tre Williams has been waiting on the right time to reveal his college decision, and by Sunday morning one of the top players from the Dallas Metroplex was ready.
Williams, the On3 Consensus‘ No. 72-rated linebacker, followed in his father’s legacy with a commitment to Stanford, which edged out Cal and several others for the 6-foot-3, 225-pounder from state champion Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal School.
“My decision wasn’t too challenging to make,” Williams told On3. “Stanford was was one of my last offers and I was almost waiting on them the whole time. I took other schools into consideration because I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen, and once It did, I already had my mind pretty made up.”
The Cardinal is in Williams’ family. His father not only played in Palo Alto but coached there. It was his dream to see his son also play for Stanford. David Shaw and Eric Sanders turned that into a reality with their efforts since the spring.
“For my Dad, it’s his dream come true,” Williams said. “Seeing his son attend the school that brought him so much is pretty indescribable for him. My mom and sisters have also been aware of my dream the whole time and are equally as ecstatic to see me live out the opportunity. It means a lot to our family as a whole.”

“I had my mind made up,” he added, “but I had to make sure I was putting my commitment toward the right group of people and they all checked that box.”
Williams, who helped Parish capture a TAPPS state championship as a junior last season, is anxious to follow his family’s legacy at Stanford. He is also out to carve out his own legacy in the process.
“I know my dad did go there, but I’m here to write my own story and follow my journey to success. Stanford can help you achieve so many things outside of football; it’s a no-brainer.”
Williams is the No. 771 overall player in the country according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
