Ross Bjork 'firm' on first Texas, Texas A&M SEC matchup being played in College Station

The calendar currently reads February 2023 and the spice level between soon-to-be SEC member Texas and current SEC member Texas A&M is already at a high level. We have at least 18 months before the two Lone Star rivals are back on the football field going up against one another. However, there seem to already be fireworks on where the first meeting is going to take place.
In the maroon corner, Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork is sure Kyle Field will play host. With how the Texas and Oklahoma move has played out, Bjork seemingly implies the SEC owes the Aggies one.
“Just because of everything that’s transpired, and that’s something that we’ve expressed to the SEC, and I guess we’ll just leave it at that,” Bjork said in an article with The Athletic.
Nothing official has been released by the SEC. In fact, the conference does not even know how the schedule as a whole will take place past the 2023 football season.
Bjork does not seem to care, making it clear Texas A&M is not going to budge. In his eyes, Texas will be making its way to College Station for the rebirth of the Lone Star Showdown, whether it be in 2024 or 2025.
“Let’s just say that is a very, very firm position from our standpoint,” Bjork said.
Kyle Field hosting ‘news’ to Texas AD Chris Del Conte
Moving to the other side of the ring in Austin and Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte. He responded to Bjork’s comments, saying it was “news” to him. Although the Texas A&M AD has commented multiple times on the matter, Del Conte called the discussion “internet fodder.”

“That’s all news to me,” Del Conte said. “I haven’t heard that from anybody. I read it somewhere, I just haven’t heard it from the powers that be… As far as I know, that’s just internet fodder.”
If the SEC continues its traditional schedule release, we will know how things shake up this upcoming fall. Media Days in July could provide further clarification as well, even if the Longhorns will not be represented in Nashville. Commissioner Greg Sankey and Texas A&M representatives will have the floor to answer questions.
Rivals meeting in football for the first time since 2011
Texas and Texas A&M have met sparingly in Olympic sports over the years. The two baseball programs have met on an annual basis for a one-game series dating back to 2016. Men’s basketball has dueled twice since the Aggies left the Big 12 for the SEC.
But nothing quite compares to the football matchup.
Whenever and wherever the first game takes place, it will mark the first matchup since the 2011 season. A game that will live forever in Austin, while those is C-Stat will be hoping for fresh memories. While the off-the-field battle will be fun to watch in the SEC, seeing everything played out on the gridiron will be even more exciting.
