Early in a critical series against Georgia, Texas A&M is already down a man. Outfielder Caden Sorrell has exited Thursday’s game in the middle of an at-bat, being replaced by Jamal George. Replays showed Sorrell pointing toward his right hand after fouling a pitch off.

“Not good for A&M baseball: Caden Sorrell is coming out of the game in the middle of an AB,” Alex Miller of The Eagle said via X. “TV shots show he’s pointing at the bottom of his right hand. He had fouled a pitch off. Jamal George will enter the game for the Aggies.”

Sorrell is a second-year player for Texas A&M and has been a big part of the equation. Heading into Thursday’s matchup, Sorrell was hitting .333 in 25 games played. His home run numbers are on par with his freshman season despite playing in significantly fewer games, slugging out 11 thus far.

Everyone in College Station will be hoping this turns out to be something minor. Losing an OPS of 1.192 would be detrimental in what could turn out to be a critical few games for the Aggies. Sorrell is needed in the lineup if the postseason hopes are going to be fulfilled.

For now, the focus is on taking down Georgia in the series opener. Coming out of Athens with a couple of wins, if not all three, would be a massive boost. Otherwise, the SEC Tournament in Hoover will be filled with a ton of stress, wondering what the future holds.

Texas A&M currently on NCAA Tournament bubble

Heading into a series against Missouri, the only thing Texas A&M could do to keep its NCAA Tournament hopes alive was avoid losing the series. Unfortunately, they went one step further and wound up getting swept by the SEC’s worst team. Not ideal for a program that entered the season with hopes of winning it all in Omaha.

Now, there is some serious ground to make up in the coming days. On3’s Jonathan Wagner currently has Texas A&M on the outside looking in. His latest Field of 64 projections do not include the Aggies, not even having them in the ‘Next Four Out’ category.

Facing Georgia provides a massive opportunity, going up against a team Wagner has as the No. 5 overall seed at the moment. And barring another matchup against Missouri, the SEC Tournament is going to be filled with possible quality wins.
