Texas A&M coach Mike Elko threw a chair on the sidelines in a moment of frustration in a game against Notre Dame on Saturday night. Cameras caught the moment and it quickly went viral on social media.

Elko was upset following a Notre Dame touchdown that put the Fighting Irish up 14-7 in the contest. On the sideline he was seen talking to players when he reached over and grabbed a chair. He quickly tossed it toward the edge of the camera frame.

You can view Mike Elko throwing the chair below. The announcers also commented on it during the action.

“Well Mike Elko was defensive coordinator here in 2017,” broadcaster Noah Eagle said. “He’s a defensive guy at heart, so when his defense gives up plays, he doesn’t like it.”

At the time of this writing, Texas A&M’s defense had surrendered 115 total yards to Notre Dame. Mike Elko wasn’t happy about it, though his unit is still learning.

“You know, he told us, we asked him, ‘How do you build great defenses?'” Todd Blackledge said on the call. “He says, ‘Well first it starts by showing players what good defense looks like. It’s all 11 guys on the same page, being accountable, doing their job.’ And that time, you know, he loves Dezz Ricks, but Dezz Ricks wasn’t accountable to the other 10 guys. Made a mistake. It cost their defense, and ultimately it cost them the lead in the game.”

That’s when Eagle chimed back in on the chair, as the broadcast panned to a shot of it resting up against a ledge in the stadium. He finished:

“Yeah that chair we’re going to have to check on, because the well-being doesn’t appear to be super high,” Eagle said. “We saw the full Jersey come out of Elko right there. And we’ll see if his defense can respond.”
