Texas A&M fans are turning Wrigley Field into a College Station tailgate. Hundreds of Aggie fans stopped to watch the Chicago Cubs on Friday while making their way to South Bend for Texas A&M’s Week 3 showdown against Notre Dame.

The Cubs were gracious hosts, with the stadium organist playing the “Aggie War Hymn” during the game. Texas A&M fans could be heard shouting out while the fight song echoed through the historic venue.

In less than 24 hours, the Aggie War Hymn will be rattling through Notre Dame Stadium. On Saturday, the Aggies and Fighting Irish will square off at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Texas A&M will be hungry for revenge after suffering a 23-13 loss to Notre Dame in the season-opener last season. Alas, it won’t be easy for the Aggies to land a knockout blow on the Fighting Irish.

After suffering a 27-24 loss to Miami in Week 1, Notre Dame enjoyed a bye in Week 2. The Fighting Irish have used the extra week to prepare for Texas A&M’s high-powered offense.

“I think for them, obviously, they got a special quarterback, but still, their offensive line is as good as you’ll see,” Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman said. “With five returning starters and some of the best individual talent up front that you’re going to see all year.

“So we have to be able to stop the run, right? It’s something I’ve always said — you have to try to put offenses behind the sticks and get them into challenging situations for them. And hopefully, you put them in a position where you feel like they’re one-dimensional. So, it’s going to start with stopping the run.”

Of course, Texas A&M isn’t the only team with a dangerous offense. Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr showed promising flashes against Miami, completing 19-of-his-30 pass attempts for 221 yards and two touchdowns while only throwing one interception.

Most notably, Notre Dame boasts running back Jeremiyah Love, who was a preseason AP All-American ahead of this season. After only rushing for 33 yards in Notre Dame’s loss to Miami, Love will be ready to put on a bounce-back performance. Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is prepared to face a fired up Jeremiyah Love.

“I’d imagine he’ll be a pretty big feature of what they’re going to do Saturday night,” Elko said. “That’d be my guess.”
