Outfielder Hayden Schott had earlier announced his return to Texas A&M after entering the NCAA transfer portal following the season, but now he can officially suit up for the Aggies during the 2025 season.

Schott needed a waiver from the NCAA to be able to play again, and he was reportedly granted it on Wednesday.

Ryan Brauniger of TexAgs.com first reported the news, which was later confirmed by Schott himself on his Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

“[T]hanks @NCAA,” Schott tweeted.

Hayden Schott led the team with a .335 batting average this past season, hitting eight home runs with 63 RBI in helping guide the Aggies to the College World Series finals. While Texas A&M ultimately fell in the championship game to Tennessee, Schott did his part to try to keep the Aggies in it, going 3-of-5 at the plate with one RBI in the deciding contest.

He worked mostly as a designated hitter for Texas A&M in 2024, though he did manage 18 putouts during the on-field reps he saw. He was a graduate student for the Aggies this past season who began his career at Cypress College (TX) in 2019.

Hayden Schott would go on to earn an Ivy League education at Columbia, where he was also named first team all-conference in 2022. He ended his career there with 23 home runs.

Texas A&M had arguably its best season in program history this past year as the College World Series finals appearance was its first ever. The Aggies’ 53 wins was also tied for the second-most in program history.

However, the program underwent some serious change in the offseason.

Coach Jim Schlossnagle departed for the Texas job, a major blow to Texas A&M. The Aggies think they can remain a top-level program by keeping things in house, tapping Michael Earley for the head coaching job.

And so far, Earley has done an excellent job keeping talent home at College Station to help smooth things over. Hayden Schott’s return (and now waiver) are a huge part of that.
