David Pollack picks Texas' offensive line as biggest question in 2025

As the offseason rolls on, the analysis continues to flow. There are plenty of national championship contenders out there, especially in the expanded format, and Texas figures to be one of them. If the offensive line can hold up, that is.

Speaking about Texas on the See Ball Get Ball podcast, host and former ESPN analyst David Pollack was asked about what he views as the biggest question mark for the Longhorns. He highlighted some strengths, then pointed out the potential problem spot.

“I don’t have any question marks about their defense,” Pollack said. “I think their defense is going to be elite. I think Arch (Manning) has a chance to be good. I don’t think the weapons are what they were and what they’ve had at Texas, but it’s the offensive line.”

Texas, of course, lost two high-caliber offensive tackles to the NFL Draft. Kelvin Banks went No. 9 overall to the New Orleans Saints, while Cameron Williams went to the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round. Guard Hayden Conner also went in the sixth round to the Arizona Cardinals.

That’s a whole lot of quality to replace in one year. This year’s offensive line unit will be quite green.

“The offensive line, almost everybody gone,” Pollack said. “Your two stalwarts at tackle who were both absolute studs and stallions. So I think they were able to do a lot and have a lot of success even with quarterback play that was kind of iffy. Because they weren’t great at the quarterback spot last year. But I think the offensive line allowed them to run the football and make the game easy.”

Obviously all eyes at Texas are on former superstar recruit Arch Manning, now going into his third year on campus. Can he be the savant the Longhorns need?

That may well depend on the offensive line. For Pollack, there’s no two ways around that as the potential problem spot.

“To me it was clearly, and again, I’m doing this with you at the same time, which is fantastic, it’s so much fun,” Pollack said. “But I’m saying the offensive line for Texas.”
