As Texas gets rolling in preseason camp, they were doing so without two big offensive stars. Starting right guard DJ Campbell and wide receiver Ryan Wingo were away from the team for undisclosed reasons. Both projected to be major contributors, their status raised a few eyebrows in Dallas.

However, head coach Steve Sarkisian put any concerns to ease on Tuesday. Sarkisian confirmed Campbell was back in practice, while one more off day is on the way for Wingo. The goal for him is to get back out there on Thursday.

“Sark says DJ Campbell was back at practice,” On3’s Inside Texas said via X. “Ryan Wingo will have one more day off tomorrow and then the plan is to have him going on Thursday.”

Campbell was a member of the famous 2022 recruiting class for Texas, one that helped Sarkisian rebuild the offensive line. Kelvin Banks and Cameron Williams heard their names called in April at the 2025 NFL Draft, leaving after three years. We could have seen the same out of Campbell but instead, he decided to return for another season.

On paper, he will be the only returning starter up front. Making sure Campbell stays healthy throughout the entire 2025 campaign, not just fall practices, will be huge for the Longhorns.

As for Wingo, he figures to be a favorite target of Arch Manning. In a season where a ton of true freshman wide receivers made an impact, one of the more underrated ones was Wingo. In 16 games played, 29 passes were caught for 472 yards and two touchdowns. No singular performance was bigger than 127 yards and a score against UTSA — a game where Manning took the majority of snaps.

Texas loses important offensive lineman for 2025 season

Texas‘ battle for the starting right tackle spot appears to be thinning out due to injury. According to a report from On Texas Football, offensive lineman Andre Cojoe is out for the season with a knee injury.

The report did not provide any additional information, but news on Cojoe has been scant in recent days despite the importance of the position battle he was involved in. Cojoe was competing with sophomore Brandon Baker for the job.

Andre Cojoe himself is a redshirt sophomore. He did not see action during his true freshman season in 2023. He then played in four games for the Longhorns last fall.
