Steve Sarkisian provides update on rehab of Quinn Ewers, others

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian answered the most pressing question: how is Quinn Ewers? Well, following the win, immediately actually, Sarkisian didn’t have a big time update other than his starting quarterback is progressing in rehab.
Maalik Murphy started his second straight game for Texas, a 33-30 overtime win over Kansas State. But, a lot of pundits want to point out the difference Ewers makes in the lineup.
For now, it’s Murphy’s show until Ewers is back fully healthy. How soon? To-be-determined.
“Quinn’s update, you know, he’s moving in the right direction,” Sarkisian said postgame. “How quickly, I don’t exactly know yet. I know this much, our team is fighting through a lot of stuff from an injury standpoint. We didn’t have Christian Jones all day today. Kelvin Banks went down Hayden Conner had to go to tackle, you know, Ethan Burke was out, he was back in. You know, Kitan Crawford wasn’t able to go today …
“So I think that speaks to the depth of this team. And it’s one thing to have depth. It’s another to have the depth and those guys being prepared to play not only for themselves, but the coaches having faith in them to do that.”

Murphy had a tougher time against the Wildcats. He went 19-of-37 passing for 248 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
“And so, again, one of the strengths of this team is our depth and quarterback is no different,” Sarkisian said. “Hopefully we can get Quinn back. In the meantime, we’re gonna try to pour into the things that Maalik continues to do well, and then try to work on some of the issues there and take care of the ball.”

Ewers was solid in his second year with Texas prior to the injury. He had 1,915 yards, 13 touchdowns, three interceptions and a 70.9% completion percentage, well ahead of his 2022 stats.
To wrap up the season, Texas heads to TCU, is at Iowa State and then hosts Texas Tech before conference championship weekend.
At 8-1, the hope is Ewers is back before the end of the regular season and he’s able to go for a potential Texas Big 12 Championship Game. After all, the Longhorns have College Football Playoff aspirations.
Seemingly to have their best shot, Ewers needs to be healthy. Murphy filled in valiantly, but the former five-star prospect is Texas’ biggest key.
