Report: Texas DB Wardell Mack arrested on DWI charges

According to Andrew Schnitker of KXAN, Texas Longhorns defensive back Wardell Mack was arrested on early Wednesday morning. Mack was booked into Travis County jail after driving while intoxicated, eventually being charged with a DWI.
“Texas Longhorns defensive back Wardell Mack was arrested and booked into the Travis County jail early Wednesday morning, according to online court records,” Schnitker said in his report. “Mack, 19, was charged with driving while intoxicated, which is a Class B misdemeanor. His bond was set at $3,000. The Louisiana native is in his second season with the Longhorns.”
As mentioned, Mack just got his second season in Austin underway. Per his official roster bio on the Texas website, he did not get into this past Saturday’s game against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Four appearances took place as a true freshman, preserving a redshirt.
Just 1.5 tackles were recorded but the solo one did come against an SEC opponent, the Florida Gators. An interception finds itself on the stat sheet too, coming against the Colorado State Rams early on.
KXAN reached out to the attorney representing Mack, effectively receiving no comment. The same can be said about the University of Texas — however, no response was given.

“Due to the pending nature of the case, we have no comment at this time,” Mack’s attorney, Logan Campbell, said in a statement.
Mack played high school football at Marrero (LA) John Ehret, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 143 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
“Smooth moving defensive back with the length and playmaking ability to make an impact as a cornerback or safety,” Rivals’ Cody Bellaire said in a scouting report. “Measured in at around 6-foot-0.5, 170 pounds prior to his senior season. Has elite length for the position with arms that measure 33.75 inches. Shows the ability to stick with receivers, using his length and movement skills to stay in-phase. Physical in press coverage, using his length to reroute receivers at the line of scrimmage. Shows loose hips and is fluid when changing directions. Has refined footwork with a very smooth backpedal in the camp setting.
“A willing downhill defender, not scared of contact or being physical as a tackler. Shows solid top-end speed, but not look to be top-tier in that regard. Ball skills are good not great, as he does not look to be the most natural pass catcher. Is still comfortable playing the ball at the catch point, getting his hands on the football. Viewed as a high floor prospect who could see an immediate role as a nickel corner at the next level and eventually developing into a field corner. Relatively young for the class, turning 18 in April of his senior year of high school.
