Steve Sarkisian compares Arch Manning passing motion to golf swing

Steve Sarkisian compared Arch Manning’s passing motion to a golf swing after receiving questions about the QB’s mechanics. Despite a 27-10 Texas win and being responsible for three total touchdowns, Manning and the passing offense struggled again Saturday.
If you’ve ever swung a golf club, especially if you get into your own head, you can definitely overcorrect a weird feeling in the motion. That could be what’s happening with Manning, although some on social media have speculated that Manning has something wrong with his shoulder.
Nothing’s been confirmed on the injury front, except Sarkisian giving an interesting response to injury questions. The head coach maintained he had to look at more tape to see if there was anything truly wrong with Manning’s delivery.
“I think the one thing that can happen when you can press a little bit is you kind of speed up the delivery, but then slow down the delivery,” Sarkisian said. “And I know that’s kind of a bit of an oxymoron. But if you think about when you try to speed your arm up and then decelerate your arm.

“For some of us here that are bad golfers, think about your golf swing. You try to swing hard and then you try to slow it down at the very end to make good contact. That’s never a recipe for success, and that’s not a good recipe for throwing a football either. And I felt like that happened at times today. But I’ll have to evaluate the tape a little bit more to see if there’s anything else fundamentally that I didn’t like.”
On Saturday, Manning struggled throwing the football. He was 11-of-25 passing for 114 yards, one touchdown and one interception. But Manning added 51 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
“But that one thing I think showed up a little bit, where he can speed himself up and then try to slow himself down, and he plays better when he’s in more rhythm and rhythmic that way,” Sarkisian said. “And there were some beautiful rhythm throws. The deep curl route to Parker early in the game, the middle route to Ryan Wingo late, as I said, the out route for the touchdown to Ryan. Those are nice rhythm throws, and I think that’s when he’s at his best, and that’s our job to find that rhythm in him.”
