Jonah Williams enjoyed himself on Friday night after drawing a walk against Florida while Texas was down eight runs. This moment might be a little better, breaking what was a deadlock at two in the sixth inning on Saturday. Bases were loaded with two outs and Williams delivered in a big way.

Sitting on a 1-1 count, a 92 miles per hour fastball was chest-level and a little outside. Williams made great contact on the ball and drove it into the gap. Disch-Faulk Stadium instantly knew some runs were about to cross the plate.

Three wound up scoring for a bases-clearing double for Williams. The freshman was certainly amped up sitting on second base, looking back to the Texas dugout, before continuing his celebration while taking off his gloves.

A great sequence for Williams to give Texas a 5-2 lead heading into the final third of the game. You can check out the full moment here.

Williams entered Saturday with 12 games on his resume, having a batting average of .345 with 10 hits in 29 at-bats. This was his third double of the year and seventh RBI. A key piece in the outfield as Texas goes through some injury problems.

Jim Schlossnagle has one of the best freshmen in the country at his disposal, becoming a more frequent name in the lineup as the season progresses. However, Schlossnagle was not the only head coach who was involved in Williams’ recruitment. Steve Sarkisian was heavily involved, if not the one primarily responsible.

Williams is also a big-time football prospect, playing high school football at Galveston (TX) Ball, where he was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. He was the No. 7 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Had it not been for his desire to play football, Williams might have heard his name called in the upcoming MLB Draft.

Sarkisian will be excited to get Williams on the football field this summer, potentially contributing during the 2025 season. But for now, he is just like the rest of us — enjoying what Williams can do in a baseball uniform.

“The guy is out there looking like Juan Soto right now,” Sarkisian said in late April on the two-sport star. “He’s playing on some big time series right now, he’s got a great opportunity, and he’s maximizing.”
