Texas makes never-seen-before New Year's Six bowl history with Peach Bowl win vs Arizona State
Texas accomplished a rare feat in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl on Wednesday afternoon, topping Arizona State 39-31 in double overtime.
So rare, in fact, that Texas is now the only program in college football history to have achieved the feat.
What was that accomplishment, exactly? Well, Texas became the first program to win all six New Year’s Six bowl games. The Longhorns added the final piece to the puzzle with the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.
The New Year’s Six bowls are comprised of the Peach Bowl, the Cotton Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl.
Here are Texas’ most recent wins in each bowl:
Peach Bowl: vs. Arizona State (2024)
Sugar Bowl: vs. Georgia (2018)
Fiesta Bowl: vs. Ohio State (2008)
Rose Bowl: vs. USC (2005)
Cotton Bowl: vs. LSU (2002)
Orange Bowl: vs. Alabama (1964)

Texas outlasts Arizona State in overtime
Texas had control of the game for most of the first 55 minutes or so, eventually taking a 24-8 lead in the fourth quarter. But the Longhorns would watch it quickly evaporate, thanks to some heroics from Sun Devils star Cam Skattebo and an interception by Quinn Ewers.
Arizona State managed to tie the game and send it to overtime. Texas had its chances, of course, but missed a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter that would have made the difference before it went to overtime.

Then fortunes changed in overtime.
Facing fourth-and-13 from the 28-yard line, Ewers took advantage of a coverage bust and dropped a rope over the top for a touchdown strike. That sent the game to a second overtime.
The Longhorns immediately struck in the second overtime with a quick touchdown pass, then added a two-point conversion to make things even more difficult on the Sun Devils.
Arizona State caved under the pressure, throwing an interception that safety Andrew Mukuba secured to seal the win.
Texas now advances to take on the winner of the Ohio State and Oregon contest in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10.
