Silas Demary Jr., a four-star point guard in the senior class, has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent with USC, he tells On3.

The 6-foot-5 prospect of Lincolnton (N.C.) Combine Academy committed to the Trojans in October beating out the likes of NC State, VCU, and St. John’s. He signed with USC in November, joining a three-man class that also included five-star PG Isaiah Collier (No. 1) and four-star PF Arrinten Page (No. 63).

Demary provided the following statement to On3:

“After much prayer and discussion with my parents and those close to my journey, I have decided to formally request release from my NLI to the University of Southern California,” he wrote.

“I have great respect and appreciation for the USC coaching staff and fans. My decision was not made lightly.  I am confident that I will find a program that aligns with my dreams and aspirations of being a successful student-athlete.  I have dedicated countless hours perfecting my craft to be a leader on and off the court. I will be re-opening my recruitment process to all schools. Please respect my decision. Thanks to my family and friends for your continued support.”

USC guard Boogie Ellis (17.7 PPG) recently announced he’d be returning next season, likely playing into Demary’s decision to explore his options. The Trojans also have an offer out to five-star senior guard Bronny James.

He ranks as the No. 60 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Silas Demary Jr. Scouting Summary

“Demary is a high-level defender, both on and off the ball. Great length. Excellent anticipation. Really competes at a high level. A combo guard on offense. Not a paint touch PG, but he can get you into sets. He is an aggressive downhill scorer. Great in transition. Solid athlete. Like to see continue to tighten the jump shot. State champion. UAA champion.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
