Clark Lea shares impressions of quarterbacks in spring camp

Spring practice is underway for Clark Lea and the Vanderbilt Commodores. With that, Vanderbilt is working to take the next step forward ahead of the 2023 regular season.
After practice, Lea explained how the team is handling its quarterbacks early in spring practice.
“They’ve all done a good job,” Clark Lea said. “We’ve allowed some of those guys to go live today in contact situations. That’s something we’re doing just to give them opportunities to play the game.”
As a freshman, AJ Swann played in nine games before suffering an injury that cost him time. Now, Lea wants to find a way to balance getting him ready with protecting his health.
“Obviously, AJ [Swann] with the injury history there we wanted to be smart but I know the Qs are excited to be playing football and to have the chance to feel the pocket compress, and for the guys that haven’t yet played there will be a lot of learning through that, but I thought I saw some good things out of all of them and we’ll keep that competition going.”

Projecting Vanderbilt’s protected rivals
Once Texas and Oklahoma enter the SEC the conference will be at 16 teams and need a new scheduling format. Right now, that looks like it will be eight or nine conference games with three annual rivalry games.
Sports Illustrated insider Ross Dellenger recently made fairly well-educated projections for Vanderbilt and other SEC schools.
For Vanderbilt, Dellenger projects the Commodores will play Tennessee, Auburn, and Missouri.
