Billy Edwards Jr. injury update: Luke Fickell reveals where Wisconsin QB stands in recovery timeline

Luke Fickell ends nonconference play with Wisconsin against Alabama, quite an important one for the program. Going down to Tuscaloosa is not easy for anyone, even as Kalen DeBoer takes over the program. Potentially doing so without your starting quarterback, Billy Edwards Jr., only makes the task even more difficult.
As of Monday, Fickell did not have much new information on where Edwards stands after suffering an injury in the opener against Miami (OH). Originally feared to be something long-term, Wisconsin let out a sigh of relief when it got official news back. But Edwards did not play on Saturday against Middle Tennessee.
“I don’t know a whole lot about Billy, before you ask,” Fickell said. “It’s a Monday, so we’ll see as we continue to push forward in the week. But we’ll, obviously, get prepared either way.”
Edwards has 13 pass attempts to his name this season, completing six of them. Only 68 passing yards in limited time is a number Wisconsin is hoping can drastically increase in the near future. Maybe against Alabama but if not, the Badgers host Edwards’ old team the following week, Maryland.
Kickoff from Bryant-Denny Stadium is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET. This game is the back-end of a home-and-home series, one Alabama currently leads. Last season’s matchup in Madison was the first big win for DeBoer during his tenure.

More on Billy Edwards Jr., first season with Wisconsin Badgers
Finding quarterbacks out of the NCAA transfer portal has become the norm for Wisconsin under Fickell. But injuries continue to be a major issue and throw wrenches into plans. Last season, it was Tyler Van Dyke — whose year was lost due to the Alabama game.
Edwards joins the Badgers with some Big Ten success under his belt. In 26 games played at Maryland, Edwards threw for 3,322 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. His decision to enter the portal brought questions about where he would land.
The Michigan Wolverines quickly gained steam, looking to pair a veteran with freshman Bryce Underwood. However, something fell apart, and Edwards remained on the market. Insert Wisconsin, also looking for an experienced player to battle for their starting job.
Unfortunately, we have not gotten to see much of him thus far. Getting back to full health remains priority No. 1 before worrying about his performances. More information from Fickell might come before heading down South to SEC Country.
