Wisconsin SF, Temple transfer Elijah Gray dismissed from program

Wisconsin SF Elijah Gray has been dismissed from the program, the school announced Tuesday. He did not play a game for the Badgers after transferring from Temple.
Gray began his college career at Fordham before playing the 2024-25 season at Temple. With the Owls, he averaged 9.0 points and 3.8 rebounds as a junior before transferring to Wisconsin over the offseason.
UW said the dismissal was due to events prior to Gray’s enrollment at the school. In addition, the program cited privacy laws as a reason it cannot discuss details about the situation.
“Elijah Gray has been dismissed from the University of Wisconsin-Madison men’s basketball team related to events preceding his enrollment at UW-Madison,” UW said in a statement. “Gray arrived in Madison as a fourth-year senior transfer this summer and had yet to play a game for Wisconsin. Privacy laws limit the university’s ability to share more at this time.”
Gray spent two seasons at Fordham from 2022-24 and emerged as a key piece of the rotation as a sophomore. He averaged 8.4 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Rams that season, and entered the transfer portal. That’s when he arrived at Temple, where he played 19.7 minutes per game off the bench.

Gray did not suit up for Wisconsin during the preseason. He sat out the Red-White Scrimmage and missed the exhibition game against Oklahoma due to what the school said were personal reasons, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel’s John Steppe.
Temple went 17-15 overall last season, including 9-9 in American Athletic Conference play, before falling to Tulsa in the first round of the conference tournament. The Owls have also been at the center of a gambling inquiry, and the NCAA previously said it is investigating 13 athletes at six programs for sports betting allegations. Temple was one of the programs listed. The NCAA did not publicly name the players, and to clarify, Gray has not been publicly connected to the situation.
Wisconsin is looking to build on an impressive 2024-25 season. The Badgers went 27-10 overall, including 13-7 in Big Ten action, and became a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. UW fell to BYU in the second round, 91-89.
Wisconsin is making its final preparations for next week’s season opener. Greg Gard’s group will tip off the season Nov. 3 when the Badgers welcome Campbell to Kohl Center as part of a four-game homestand to get things underway.
