Wisconsin will not play Northwestern in men’s basketball Saturday due to COVID-19 issues within the Wildcats program, according to a release from Wisconsin’s athletic department.

“The men’s basketball game between Wisconsin and Northwestern that was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21 in Evanston, Illinois will not be played due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols within the Northwestern program,” the statement read. “The two schools, along with the Big Ten Conference, will work together to identify possible rescheduling dates.

“All distributed tickets for the Wisconsin at Northwestern game will be valid for the new game date and time.”

As of now, there is no scheduled make-up date for the two schools.

Northwestern reportedly only had six available players for a game against Iowa earlier this week, Stadium’s Jeff Goodman said Tuesday, which is why the game had to be postponed. It was unclear whether or not the game would end up getting made up, but the two teams worked with the Big Ten office to find a new date: Jan. 13

The Wildcats and Hawkeyes were supposed to square off at Carver-Hawkeye Arena Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET on the Big Ten Network. Iowa made the news official Tuesday morning in a press release and confirmed the plans to work with the league on a new date for the game.

Northwestern lost two straight games to fall to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in conference action. The Wildcats fell to Michigan 85-78 Sunday, just a few days after a loss to Rutgers in the final minutes at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
