Angel Reese takes shot at Hailey Van Lith, multiple teammates, trashes Sky organization

Amid another rough season for the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese called out the organization during an interview with the Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe. She said she wants to see more from the team in free agency while also calling out some of her teammates.
According to the Tribune, Reese said she doesn’t think either Hailey Van Lith or Rachel Banham are capable of leading the charge for a playoff team. She also pointed out the impact Courtney Vandersloot can have, but cited her age as a factor in the Sky’s ability to rely on her at the point guard position. However, she suffered a season-ending ACL injury this season.
As a result, the former LSU star implored the Sky to get younger at the guard spot. That was part of the message she shared with team leadership, as well.
“We can’t rely on Courtney to come back at the age that she’s at,” Reese told the Tribune. “I know she’ll be a great asset for us, but we can’t rely on that. We need someone probably a little younger with some experience, somebody who’s been playing the game and is willing to compete for a championship and has done it before.”
Chicago drafted Van Lith with the No. 11 overall pick in this past year’s WNBA Draft, which was one pick after Slovenian forward Ajsa Sivka went. She has not played this season, though, as she played in the Euroleague. Van Lith and Reese played together at LSU before the former transferred to TCU, where she once again helped lead a team to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

Angel Reese: ‘I’m not settling for the same s*** we did this year’
The Sky enter Wednesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun with a 9-30 overall record, which is on pace to be worse than last year’s 13-27 mark with five games left to play. Chicago has lost its last four games and nine of its last 10 – with the lone victory coming over the New York Liberty Aug. 21.
It’s another rough year for Reese, the second-year player out of LSU. As for what else she’d like to see from the Sky moving forward, she simply said they have to acquire great players and stop “settling.”
“I’m not settling for the same s−−− we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.
“I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”
