The SEC Tournament got the final that they wanted with No. 1 South Carolina and No. 2 Texas having a rematch in Greenville. However, the third game between the two is all for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina took a 33-16 lead into halftime over Texas. With that, the 16 points by the Longhorns were the fewest-ever points in a half in an SEC Championship.

Texas shot only 8/27 (29.6% FG%) overall in the first half while turning it over 11 times. They did score 10 points at 33% in the opening quarter to be down just two. After that, though, the Longhorns scored only 6 points at 25% FG when the deficit reached 17.

On the other side, South Carolina shot 13-31 (41.9%) overall. Their scoring did the opposite between the two opening quarters as they scored 12 in the first before putting up 21 in the second.

In the second half, it was much of the same, especially for Texas. The Longhorns again shot just 8/27 overall although to put up 29 points due in large part to a dozen free throws. They also turned the ball over seven more times to give them a total of 18 this afternoon.

The 45 points were a season-low for Texas. It was also, ironically, the fewest they’d scored in any game since losing to the Gamecocks in the Elite Eight in 2021 when they scored only 34 points (23% FG). That total also nearly cut their season’s average in half after posting 80 per game (46.5% FG) this year. Still, in their three games against South Carolina this season, the Longhorns averaged just 53.7 points (33.8%).
