Women's college basketball takeaways

Day three of women’s college basketball was slower, but still fun. If you couldn’t catch everything or just need a refresher, here are some takeaways.
1. Meghan Andersen = one of the best mid-major players in the country
Fairfield earned an impressive win on the road at Villanova last night, despite missing a few key contributors. One player who certainly made an impact, though, was junior Meghan Andersen. She scored a career-high 35 points alongside seven rebounds, 2 steals and a block. She was also 3-of-6 from deep.
Fairfield has earned its place as one of the premier mid-majors in the country under head coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis and it looks like they’ll remain an upset threat through the year.
2. Kansas may take some time
I thought (and still think) this could be the year that Kansas makes a major jump. They have one of the best freshmen classes in the country, but with that comes the challenge of adjusting. Though they came out with the 74-64 win over Kansas City, it was tight at points, and that’s a team they’re expected to beat with ease.

The Jayhawks started two freshmen and three overall newcomers last night, so this may just be a question of how much time it will take for the chemistry to develop. Freshman Jaliya Davis scored 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting last night – a bright spot in the game. The other three freshmen combined for five points, one rebound and five assists last night.
But Regan Williams came off the bench and made her mark. The 6-3 sophomore scored 18 points alongside eight rebounds, a steal and a block.
