Milton (Ga.) avoided the late comeback Friday night from Buford (Ga.), beating the Wolves 13-0 in a nailbiter.

The winning touchdown for the Eagles came at the 7:54 mark in the third quarter following a two-hour weather delay.

Four-star Miami quarterback commit Luke Nickel lined Milton up at the right hash of the Buford 17-yard-line before dropping a dime on a fade to Florida State four-star wide receiver pledge CJ Wiley on the right side of the end zone. That pass capped a stellar drive through the air for Milton, as Nickel went 4-for-4 passing for 80 yards to march the Eagles down the field.

Nickel is the nation’s No. 238 overall prospect, No. 18 quarterback and No. 33 recruit in Georgia in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 is higher on Nickel than the rest of the recruiting industry. Nickel is 102nd in the nation and No. 11 among QBs in the 2025 On300.

CJ Wiley ranks No. 100 in the On3 Industry Ranking and 13th among wide receivers. He is also slightly higher in the On300, ranking No. 76 overall in the class.

The defending state champions now sit at 1-0 on the season after taking the opener against Buford. Milton will take on American Heritage (Fla.) next week at home while Buford faces Savannah Benedictine.
