Might be stunning that he admitted. The actual revelation has 100% been out there. However only a few of us called it nepotism from day 1...

I mean people can all it what they want. Bruce hired SP and was his direct manager so you could say it was nepotism all those years. Bruce did not hire SP to be the head basketball coach althoughI am certain he heavily influenced the decision.

My question is, why is he now publicly admitting something everyone knew now?

And what father wouldn’t do the same for his son. I certainly would.

Not only did he influence the decision, I am of the opinion he manipulated the timing of his exit to ensure his son could rise to the top without fair competition for the job.

i am not of that opinion. think he was just done and probably realized this season was going to suck.

I don't really care. Steve will be fine. Don't think Bruce could've done much more with this roster. Maybe a few more wins, but we'd still be staring down a sub-20 win regular season.

He realized that the day before practice started. How convenient.

You should get over it regardless. He’s undeniably the greatest AU basketball coach in our history. Maybe not the most ideal way to do that, but whatever. No point in carrying sour grapes over it.

I think Bruce was absolutely floored by how the Yaxel situation played out, and at that time realized he didn't have the energy, or the budget to continue coaching. I get it, but I wish, and I'm sure he too wishes, that he'd made the decision a little sooner. Agree on the premise though. Bruce is the best coach we'll ever have, at any sport.

Tbh, I don't even care the circumstances. Bruce earned enough grace for the fanbase to get over it.

Also, agreed, and as @Alan Head said in the Call in Show, even with Bruce the ceiling of this roster was round of 32 at most anyway.

I would be shocked that people are so outraged at this team but there were lots of folks that wanted to replace Bruce until last year (his 2nd Final Four run). People that complain, for the most part, don't like his personal opinions and therefore didn't like SP being his replacement. Anyone that turned a program around like he did should be able to pick his replacement. It's not like he wasn't on his staff for years, SP was apart of that success as well. I don't like some of the outcomes this year and think we've underperformed by 1-2 games (thought we'd be 9-9 with this roster) but it's also a completely new roster. Bruce had a year that he took a gamble on a player and we missed the tournament so it's not like it can't happen, we need to see how next year plays out before we come with pitchforks. Hell, we could win Saturday and still get in. The overreaction is primarily coming from football only fans that want the sky to fall because Hugh was trash.

That last part is definitely true. Those bums excused Hugh time and time again and have been praying for the basketball downfall. They usually only post about it after a loss too.

It's weird to me how there are Auburn fans that want one sport to suck to either prop up another sport, or drag all sports down to the shitter together.
