So I wanted to give the athletic department leadership the benefit of the doubt (clear they didn't make the football hire, seem relatively sharp) but this search has been terrible. One thing you have to know is when to pivot and they seem to have stuck way too long with guys who weren't gonna take the job. I don't doubt IC sources were telling them may was still on the list but it's a problem he was when I think all / most of us knew he wasn't coming. Also just little stuff like IC talking about how they didn't want to fire Hubert one day because of other sports on campus is just them not getting with the modern world. The hire may end up being fine but they process here has been pretty poor

UNC revenue athletics = to seem rather than to be.
We have become obsessed with perception rather than just getting a good coach that will win in both football and basketball (obviously less so in bball). But football hired Mack Brown and Belichick to try and win headlines first. Seems like that was the approach taken with the basketball search so far as well.
Do we not know what it takes to identify a good basketball coach anymore? I guess we haven't really had to try in 50 years so maybe we've never known and just got lucky?

Hey, I understand you may be upset, but who says they didn’t pivot? Just because you’re not in the loop doesn’t mean things are what they seem. Be careful not to let social media insanity cloud reality. UNC is going after big targets, and I think it’s worth seeing where things stand. I get that nobody likes anything negative associated with the program. I don’t like it either, but you have to do your due diligence. Getting the best coach means taking some swings and misses. Also, the national media is lazy and cherry-picks ad nauseam, which doesn’t help. When you’re conducting a calculated and well-versed search, of course some things will get out. But one consistent theme is that nobody really knows much. We’ve kept things close to the vest. Because of that, people are filling in the blanks, and others are running with a false narrative. Let’s see how it plays out before we rush to judgment. UNC “Chicken Littles” are alive and well.

There has been nothing embarrassing about it.
Not yet, anyway.
It hasn’t concluded as quickly as the OP would like.
That’s not the same thing as “embarrassing.”

Coaches aren't tripping over themselves to come coach a blue blood in the NIL/transfer portal era. Don't need the allure of the school to recruit anymore. There is something to staying where you are already comfortable.

Literally everyone that matters is saying the search is far from embarrassing yet posters still say it's embarrassing
