Goodbye LED floor

Statement from Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark: "After consultation with the coaches of our four Semifinal teams, I have decided that in order to provide our student-athletes with the greatest level of comfort on a huge stage this weekend, we will transition to a hardwood court for the remainder of the Tournament. We look forward to a great Semifinals and Championship Game."

Impressive judgment by Yormark. Gave this court a shot to generate buzz and interest. Didn’t work out. Coaches told him it was a problem. And he made the change right away, knowing he would get killed for it. Easy thing for him to do would be to let it ride through the end of the tourney and players could just deal w it. Good leadership imo. Took a risk. Didn’t work. Moved on right away, putting players first.

Impressive judgment would have been an ample amount of testing before making the teams play on it in an extremely important tournament. I appreciate your positive spin but this was a mistake that shouldn't have happened.

I have no need, interest, or motivation to spin any of this. Let’s say you’re right and this is a mistake that shouldn’t have happened, what decision do you think most people in his position would make right now? Acknowledge the mistake and make a change immediately or pretend like it isn’t a mistake, make the players finish the tournament on the floor, and then quietly pretend like this experiment never happened in the offseason? All I’m saying. I think by virtue of our position as not being the SEC/Big 10 we’re going to have to take risks to generate interest.

Yes, everyone would make the same decision but you may not be aware of why. The floor is a physical disaster, there are literally grooves between the panels so they didn't have a choice. As I said, you probably haven't had a chance to see that but that's why he's taking action. How those things were not seen before is the real question.

Can you imagine the bad press if a player had been injured because of this? I watched several players slide and slip in the BYU-Houston game.

It happened. Texas Tech's Christian Anderson slipped on it and suffered a groin injury.

It didn't seem to bother the women's team...

I know you're joking but it actually did. Even at the end of the championship game, Jordan Harrison went down. Had she slipped a second earlier, WVU may have lost the championship.

I thought this floor has been used in Europe for a while in some of their professional leagues as well as other events the last couple of years. What issues were discovered prior to the B12 using the floor? If no issues came from previous use, what caused these issues to appear in this tournament?

She definitely slipped on the steal to secure the Colorado game after poking it free too. I think our women were one of the few teams who got a look at it when they were on the road late in the year. Other than that, I hate to say it, but the women's teams were the guinea pig for this experiment. It think it did generate some buzz and some of it was positive. For example someone had a post about the live stats on the floor. Unfortunately, the risk and the negative outcomes were becoming VERY obvious. Guys were slipping all over the place yesterday. I imagine that floor generates a bunch of condensation on top when the temperature changes.

Kinda glad it did fizzle out because you know had it worked schools would've been clamoring for one for 'revenue' purposes.

the floor crack graphics after a dunk reminded me of NBA Jam (1993) when you broke the backboard and they shouted "Boomshakalaka"

A lot of teams did. It both looked horrendous and played even worse. Hopefully, this isn't revisited but unfortunately like everything it's about the almighty dollar which means it'll unfortunately be back.
