An aggressive DC it is!

Seems solid… A&M fans don’t like him, but he apparently is one of their best recruiters and has legit SEC DC experience.

Is there a connection? Or was he likely making a move this offseason anyway? Would also explain the delay

Bateman was fired as DC at UNC after 2021. I'm underwhelmed to be honest. Also was DC at Elon, Ball State and Army. I suspect he was going to be out at A&M.

I don't know as much about him, however, working under Elko is not a bad thing.

There's the sitting power conference coordinator I discussed on 11 Personnel yesterday. Seemed clear that Stein was taking a swing at someone with a current job.

Bateman was on staff with Jabbar Juluke at Florida.

He was extremely highly regarded at Army. The stint at North Carolina did not go well. Rebounded nicely at Florida and Texas A&M. Has had success as an SEC recruiter.

Stealing another active SEC defensive coordinator? Stein is flexing.

MrKentucky said:I'm even seeing people start to complain about Hartline. A lot of that is because of the Indiana game, but now you're starting to hear people downplay his involvement in the offense outside of recruiting. Coordinators are always easy to blame.Except for OSU and Hartline, I’m not sure any school liked their coordinators. Oregon fans complained that stein throws too many screen passes.

Jay Bateman sounds familiar...

Whether he works out or not I think it’s impressive to steal a DC in conference from a team in the playoffs

I’ll never be upset about Kentucky football taking a sitting coach for the same position from A&M

He was "Co-DC" at A&M, that may have played a big role. I guess technically they made him DC but they had a CO-DC and Elko called plays.
Wasn't being negative, the fact to have his own unit again may have played into his decision.

Hard to judge DCs under a defensive minded HC either way. Good recruiter so that’s big.
