One more Note

I do think Magoon Gwath was a backup option for UK if they didn’t get Freeman. But because the staff is so locked down and won’t talk to any media local or national, no one knows. When I talk about managing PR, if media people could say with confidence “this was a backup option”, people wouldn’t freak out when that kid commits elsewhere But because they don’t, every kid that picks another school looks like a whiff, whether it is or isn’t. That is a PR problem and as one national media member said to me today “is a complete self-inflicted error by Pope.” As I said earlier, I think the only definite first option kid Kentucky has lost is the Va Tech kid. But I acknowledge that’s me trying to see Pope’s plan in the best light, even though we don’t actually know what the plan is.

I would agree he’d be a backup to Freeman, but Freeman is likely to UCONN, right? starting to feel like you’re at a point you offer options 1-3 and say first man up gets it

Bold of you to think Pope has a plan. Seems to me like he's just been daydreaming and throw shit at the wall.

Is it possible to dislike Mark Pope more than a growing majority of BBN does?

It’s still a big miss…because let’s be honest, we aren’t beating UConn for freeman. So we just lost two options

I'm starting to think JMI got a little too much blame this winter.

Smart by Pope. He doesn’t even really know when he whiffs so how can we?

He hasn’t learned 1 thing from the last 2 portal cycles.

At this point I kind of wish there was a way to use all of this seasons NIL money to help buy Pope out and have Mo coach the season with a DII roster while we spend a year finding our next coach and getting ready for 2027 season. To me that's far better than suffering through another year of this. It's just not even worth it.

You thought that was just random fodder? Clearly was designed to mask Pope’s lack of talent acquisition. This was very clear once Will started nabbing dudes in CFB portal.

I have zero confidence in Pope and his ability to coach, recruit, or succeed at KY. However, I'll give him a pass on keeping information on lockdown. He's been burned so many ways that I frankly don't blame him for not trusting anyone. So, I can understand why he chose to play it this way. I don't think it will matter one way or another. Perception is always going to be up to the people who want to come to their own conclusions irregardless of having facts or not.

Every player we’ve tried to schedule a visit with or have had a zoom with and don’t get is a whiff. We just don’t need starters we need backups too so don’t wanna hear that stuff about we talk to so many players

I’m okay with this but it sure looks like Freeman is UConn bound, so all it really means is we just missed on our backup option, too.

If we come away with 0 of the big 3, I don't see how we put a good team on the floor next season.

He was a depth piece at best. People need to take some time and go back and look at his stats against Michigan and Arizona teams we are chasing now. He is very young and still developing and has upside but just not an impact now guy that is needed. Just my opinion.
