Todd Golden

Been hesitant to share this because I know how this board can be. Local radio here in Jacksonville had the Florida beat writer on their show this week and the topic of Golden's future came up. He seemed to suggest the only two circumstances Golden would leave Florida would be for the NBA or for a blue blood. Then the radio host asked and I'm paraphrasing "Kentucky fans ARE NOT happy with Mark Pope. Can you see Golden going to Kentucky?". The writer phrased his answer very carefully but basically said if you listened to Golden after Florida beat Kentucky, other than the $20M roster comment, he was very careful about how he answered some of the post-game questions because it was clear he didn't want to step on any toes in the Kentucky camp should season three of the Pope era go south. I personally think Golden has his eye on the NBA. However, if we have another season like this one next year and Mitch (or whoever the AD is then) wants to make a change.... I'm not sayin'. I'm just sayin'. Regardless, that part of the interview made me raise an eyebrow. He thinks Golden would jump at the chance to coach at a blue blood. And since Duke, UNC, UCONN, Kansas all have established coaches that aren't going anywhere, UK could be the first to open up. Keep an eye on UCLA though. If they get tired of Cronin's antics with his lack of success, that would give Golden a chance to go back to the West Coast where he spent six years at San Francisco as an assistant and head coach.

I really like Golden and have kept up with him since his days at San Francisco. Would’ve been one of my first options when we hired Pope, dudes a good coach. Don’t really care about the pictures he sent or whatever, the girl in question was of age and ultimately nothing ever came of it.

Self will not be at Kansas for much longer, especially with all of his health problems. Kansas will be open soonish imo. Maybe in the next 5 years? Just something to think about.

Golden isn’t getting a look with Mitch at the helm. Doesn’t matter what the results of UF’s internal investigation were. There was way too much smoke on that IG stalking story for there not to be fire. The dude is a little off/unsettling to begin with so it’s hard to give him the benefit of the doubt. Great basketball mind though. That part is undeniable.

My pause on that is I’m not going to do one of my own dirty like that. I give my own kids a little more grace because they are mine. But, if Mitch had his own GM he could be back channeling to Golden’s camp letting him know that the job is his if Pope fails next year. 😉

Not just Kansas. Hurley isn't long for UConn, and I'm not sold UNC is going to just stick with Hubert. We could be in for some major movement in the next couple of years, and Golden will have his pick

Serious question…. Whatever happened with him allegedly stalking the co-Ed’s on campus? Was that ever resolved? Settled? Allegations dropped? Did it just disappear?

When everything started he unfollowed over 40 different women on instagram and there were multiple college girls that came forward saying he stalked and harassed them. ESPN obtained the letter explaining why the university didn’t fire him and it said that “there’s no evidence that sexual harassment ‘occurred within a university program or activity’” so he did not break Title IX rules. Essentially the university said “he may or may not have sexually harassed college girls, but that it didn’t happen within the confines of his job, so he’s not fired.” So he harassed/stalked somewhere between a half dozen to multiple dozens of college aged women, but because he didn’t do it within his capacity as a coach, then he’s not held responsible for it.

I think he would be a great hire. He'd probably leave us for the NBA at some point, but we have to hire someone with proven success next time around.

UNC would be going outside their “family “ if they hired Golden. Be interesting to see if they would do that , because they haven’t been .

So Florida did the investigation and basically said, very carefully, Golden did not break any laws or commit any misconduct while on the clock or with any university funds/resources. They didn't say he was innocent of stalking/whatever, they just said they have no reason to fire him because of whatever personal stuff he did/does on his own time and dime, as long as it doesn't break the law. No realistic evidence was ever put against him from the woman/women, so legally he was fine in that regard as well. So you can read between the lines and draw your own conclusions. My opinion is that where there's smoke, there's usually fire. Does that mean I wouldn't take him as a head coach? No, but he'd have to be on a very short leash with a zero tolerance policy.

Pre-Pope, I was anti Golden. Not anymore, bring his creepy ass to Lexington and start hanging banners again, because that shit, that shit is fun.
