Sorsby is going to play and this guy is probably not very good. He has no official stats and was moved to WR. He is from Texas though. But it does open up the question of are there any QBs anywhere in the country also on the track team? Just in case Sorsby doesnt play and Hammond isnt good to go week 1.

I'd assume they have rules in place to prevent someone circumventing any transfer windows by going through a different sport. They had these in place for scholarships for football players that also played another sport.

I mean the article says this kid could play football at his new school in the fall. I dont know why that wouldnt apply for anyone else the same way. I dont know what the rule is that allows it since I had always assumed if you were on the football team and had a scholarship your scholarship counted against footballs total regardless if you were on a different sports team or not.

couldn't hurt to have an extra option at qb... especially one with that kind of speed. I wouldnt be mad if we took him

We have a damn good track program and we’re an easy SWA flight to his home town. It would make sense on many levels for him to think Texas Tech. Oh, and btw.. We have question marks at QB.. I could see Leftwich designing a special package for a QB with that skill set

From what I found online, the answer is that he most likely would need a waiver to transfer in the track window and play football in the fall, or risk being ineligible.

If you play two sports and on schollie, it HAS to count for football numbers. Guess he could just walk on to both. With NIL, who needs a scholarship?

Don't think there's any way you could play him next year without your coach being penalized half the year.

There would have to some kind of proof of tampering or coercion though, right? If hes elected to transfer on his own accord, and for Track, then happens to also be able to play QB, then whats the problem?

I don't think tampering has anything to do with it. It's just about bringing in a transfer outside of the window.

"Despite entering the portal as a track and field athlete, Gordon can sign with any program as a two-sport athlete, meaning he can join any interested football program ahead of the upcoming Fall semester. The NCAA’s month-long track and field portal window opened Thursday and will close on June 26." Track portal is open.
