UNI Player die during a workout?

A University of Northern Iowa (UNI) football player has passed away following a medical emergency that occurred on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The student-athlete's death was reported on February 14, 2026, following the incident earlier in the week. Not a lot of detail but did see this: https://heritagethrone.site/parker-sutherland-obituary-accident-uni-football-death-university-of-northern-iowa-player-is-dead/

There was a call for “non-trauma” cardiac event at the UNI facilities earlier. Sounds sad.

Big part of our 7on7 program. I didn't personally know him well but he was well liked by everyone. Haven't heard any details yet. Definitely a sad day.

Know someone on the team and he said they were having some competition run drill before his scheduled morning lift. he showed up for his lift a little after incident and said parker was running in the drill and apparently went completely purple and passed out unconscious. Team had a meeting and not much more info than that but really sad deal.

I don't know how to share an X post on here, but Mich Fick posted a video of Parker catching a game winning 2 pt conversion and shouting out his Nana on here birthday while the defender was trying to rip the ball out of his hands.

That was awesome capper to a City / West game. I knew Parker, and know his parents well. It’s soul crushing. The training staff were on top of him immediately, and from what I know briefly he regained consciousness, but during transport to a hospital in Waterloo flat lined. He was transported to UIHC last night after a few glimmers of hope, but it became apparent after a few tests there was no brain activity and he quickly passed away. Soul crushing.

This has gotta be tough for you, too. My condolences. I have always been a huge Hawkeye fan, but growing up in NE Iowa, we had UNI season tickets and my parents got me a UNI Kurt Warner #13 jersey for my 13th birthday. It has been tough seeing that long time dominant program crumble. Not that it matters, but healthy 19 year old don't have heart attacks unless something is going on. Maybe an undetected heart condition? So incredibly sad.
